Stephen Ruggieri

Director of Training and Development

Stephen’s tenure in various hospitality positions serve as a guidepost in his role as Director of Training and Development. As the face of training for the AHA, Stephen worked to create an accessible and agile learning framework for hospitality professionals of all levels. Watching his grandfather manage Alpine Country Club in Rhode Island piqued Stephen’s interest in hospitality. Serving as a waiter, captain, and event planner led Stephen to the AHA. As Director of Training and Development, Stephen oversees and executes training across a number of courses with the goal of instilling confidence and passion in hospitality for every student.

Richard Hawk

Professor of Hospitality Arts

Richard brings more than 30 years of hospitality experience to his role as within the AHA as the Content Consultant. A graduate of the University of Iowa, his portfolio includes more than 4,000 events. As an event planner and consultant, Richard has served dignitaries such as President Clinton, President Obama and Mikhail Gorbachev. Richard’s dedication earned him the HMG+ Captain of the Year Award in 2017 and an HMG+ Leadership Award in 2018. As Content Consultant, Richard assists with developing course content, training concepts and is a resource for students in the AHA courses.

Chief Marketing Officer

In her role as Chief Marketing Officer, Karen engages and empowers hospitality professionals of all experience levels. Working in corporate foodservice, event planning and catering for more than 30 years, Karen brings a level of professionalism and invaluable personal knowledge to the AHA. Serving as President and Owner of HMG+ and President of the New York Staffing Association makes Karen uniquely positioned to advise and counsel hospitality leaders seeking career development and advancement opportunities.
